Tuesday, November 29 is a special day in our region and worldwide. You have probably heard of Black Friday and maybe even Cyber Monday. The Tuesday following is now referred to as Giving Tuesday a regional effort supporting over 90 local nonprofits that do such good and important work in our communities.
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. What exactly is #GivingTuesday- It was created by the team at the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y, a cultural center in New York City that since 1872 has been bringing people together around the values of service and giving back.
#GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. A team of influencers and founding partners joined forces, collaborating across sectors, offering expertise and working tirelessly, to launch #GivingTuesday and have continued to shape, grow and strengthen the movement.
One of the best ways to get involved is in your own community. There is a local #GivingTuesday directory to help you find organizations, charities, events and more in our community. See this link to see what’s happening in our area, https://www.givingtuesday.org/whats-happening-near-me
